    What is AEO?

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is the practice of ensuring your content is cited in AI-generated answers. Unlike traditional SEO, where the goal is to appear among the "10 blue links," the objective of AEO is to be the primary source referenced by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, or Google AI Overviews.

Why is it becoming important so quickly?

    • Google AI Overviews display answers before traditional search results.
    • ChatGPT is used by 800M+ people every month.
    • Perplexity cites source materials – being there equals web traffic.
    • 60% of Gen-Z use AI instead of Google.

Traditional SEO isn't disappearing, but AEO is the new frontier of competition.

How do AI models select content?

AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) evaluate:

    1. Clarity – is the answer direct and specific?
    2. Authority – is the source trustworthy (E-E-A-T)?
    3. Structure – does the page feature clear headings, lists, and tables?
    4. Freshness – how recently was it updated?
    5. Citability – are there facts, figures, and verifiable sources?

    10 AEO Practices

    1. Answer the question immediately Headline "What is X?" → the first paragraph answers it. Avoid three paragraphs of introduction.

    2. Use a question-and-answer structure H2 = question, paragraph = answer. AI parses this effectively.

    3. FAQ Schema markup Add JSON-LD FAQPage markup. ChatGPT and Google see this explicitly.

    4. Use structured data everywhere - Article schema - Organization schema - HowTo schema - Product schema

    5. Specific numbers and facts "30–50% faster" > "much faster". AI loves data points.

    6. Short, clear paragraphs 60–80 words per paragraph. AI parses these better.

    7. Tables and lists Use them for comparisons and step-by-step instructions. AI cites these frequently.

    8. Make author info visible E-E-A-T = Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust. Show who is writing.

    9. Cite your sources Linking to reputable external sources increases your own credibility.

    10. llms.txt file A new standard – tells AI crawlers what your site contains. Similar to robots.txt.
